Take a short plane trip to Hualien to see Taroko Gorge. This gorge is known for its sheer marble cliffs, deep, winding tunnels, and the Liwu River, which flows through its craggy landscape. Wulai is a famous mountain village in northern Taiwan and is located in water reservation area. Residents are mostly aboriginal people (Tai Ya Tribe). See the famous Wulai Waterfall which is about 80 meters high. The highlight of the visit to this area is a singing and dancing show by aboriginal people.
Taipei comes alive at night and the city is a buzzing with activities. Start with a delicious Mongolian Barbeque dinner at a downtown restaurant, walked off afterwards at the exotic night market and a walk through Snake Alley. The last stop for the night is at the 101 Building, the tallest in the world.
Keelung, a 40-minute drive northeast of Taipei, is one of Taiwan's international seaports. Afterwards, proceed to the Northern Coast to the fascinating natural formations of Yehliu Park, where you will discover the infamous rock formations of the Queen's Head and Fairy's Shoe - a geologist's dreamland and a fascinating place for a day trip.
Today visit two neighboring towns of Yingko and Sanhsia. Yingko is Taiwan's ceramic and potter capital, producing magnificant hand-painted works of art, from earthenware tea sets to delicate statues. Also visit Tsushih Temple, which is one of the world's finest examples of current Chinese temple art built in 1769.
Visit Yangmingshan Nation Park which varies greatly, from hot springs and fumaroles to tranquil lakes and grass fields. The main mountain range, Tatun, was formed by volcanic activity about two million years ago. Later also visit Peitou to see the hot springs, take a relaxing bath, sure to relieve all ailments from muscle pain to nervous tension.
Take a drive to the east coast of Taipei to visit the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area, a popular swimming spot for the locals. This area also offers fascinating rock formations, lighthouses, fishing villages, pastoral farmlands and temples. After, visit the quaint town of Chiufen Village, once an old gold mining center, now full of unique teahouses.
Lin An-Tai Historical Home is a traditional Chinese courtyard house and is one of the few traditional houses preserved in northern Taiwan and offers a rare glimpse into life in China's past. Later see Pao An Temple one of the Taipei's oldest temples, built some 230 years ago. Then onto Dihua Old Street, one of the oldest, well preserved and historically symbolic street in Taipei, and still very active to this day.
