Come see the train that fascinates people all over the world. Known world-wide as simply "The Santa Fe", every year, tens of thousands of visitors come to see, photograph, and paint the old Santa Fe Depot and ride the train along this historic route that carried early tourist adventurers, settlers, artists and scientists into the city.
Scenic Day Train
Take a day ride from Santa Fe through Northern New Mexico's beautiful high desert where you will experience the landscape and railroad history. Early century coaches, open observation flat car and mid-century luxury lounge cars (on selected runs) take you to the sleepy village of Lamy and back. Lunch is available to purchase every day except Sunday and Monday, from Marianna's at the Depot (under the cottonwoods in good weather, in the depot in inclement weather) or bring a picnic.
Wednesday, Friday and Sunday Hot Shots
These trains don't go all the way to Lamy, but instead travel down to the rim of the Galisteo Basin for a wide view from this interesting geologic uplift. The train becomes a two-headed snake, with an engine on each end. One pulls down, the other pulls back. Snacks, hot and cold drinks, as well as stronger stuff is available at the cash bar.
Please Note: Travel on Wednesdays in April and May is on the Scenic Day Train)
