 The Western region of Portugal has some of the best architectural masterpieces of this country such as the Alcobaca and Batalha Monasteries, and the medieval town of Obidos. Besides these, you can also visit the sea sites of Nazare and the Sanctuary of Fatima. As this tour is private, you can choose to alter your itinerary with several optional visits.
Begin start the day with a visit to Obidos, a magnificent medieval town, that you can explore on foot, with your guide.
Next, you will journey to Nazare, a beautiful sightseeing spot of the Atlantic Ocean and the Portuguese coast. From here, continue to Alcobaca, famous for its 12th century monastery. This monastery is not only a beautiful architectural example, but it has also the monuments in memory of King D. Pedro I and D. Ines de Castro (characters of a romantic Portuguese story from the 14th century and similar to "Romeu and Juliet") of magnificent stone handwork.
After lunch in Alcobaca, continue to Batalha to visit its marvelous monastery, built between the 14th and the 15th centuries. The Monastery of Batalha is the biggest example in Portugal of the late gothic Portuguese style, where you will find a mix of the Gothic style with the Manuelino Art symbol of the Portuguese maritime expansion.
Finally, visit Fatima and its Sanctuary, the site where Our Lady of Fatima appeared in 1917. Since then, Fatima attracts millions of pilgrims every year, thanks to its mystical strength! The Sanctuary Square is so big that it can only be described by numbers: it accommodates 300,000 visitors and is twice the size of St. Peter Square in the Vatican.
