A day of amazing wilderness in the "Green Mountains".
Depart Brisbane and climb high above the surrounding coastal plain to the cool quiet rainforests of Lamington Plateau. Visit Mount Tamborine with its spectacular panoramic views of the Gold Coast and glistening waters of the blue Pacific Ocean. Enjoy an opportunity for morning tea and a leisurely walk in the fresh mountain air.
From here we head toward the "Green Mountains" of O'Reilly's. Lunch today (at your own expense) can be purchased from the O'Reilly's Rainforest Guesthouse, or you can bring a picnic lunch if you wish. Feel the history of this area as we traverse old logging tracks and hear of the epic adventures of those early settlers. Whilst enjoying the serenity of this mountain wilderness, learn of the heroic rescue by Bernard O'Reilly of two survivors from the Stinson plane crash. Walk through the tree tops 16 meters above the forest floor, view the ancient Antarctic Beech trees together with a multitude of flora and fauna.
Travel through Canungra, the old sawmilling town that is now home of the Australian Army's Jungle Warfare Training Centre. We will visit the Canungra Valley Winery with its historic buildings and rural setting. You may also sample the fruits of the vine from this award winning winery.
After this enjoyable day, you will arrive back into Brisbane with a desire to return to the spectacular beauty of the "Green Mountains".
